How to make and decorate cupcakes

How to make and ice cupcakes. Cupcakes are a great for children’s party, especially under 5’s year olds party. Especially when it’s got icing on top children at that age group just love it. Mind you not as much as the cake it self as after they have the icing the cake is forgotten. So this blog post on how to make and decorate cupcakes.

To make cupcakes there are various recipes available. Mainly forms of butter cake or sponge base. Different flavours can be made as well from lemon to chocolate flavoured cake. Buttercream or double cream as frosting or icing. Icing made from double cream is much lighter compared to buttercream as icing.

Cupcake Base/ cake recipe makes 12 cupcakes

30 grams softened butter

90 grams caster sugar

1 large size free-range egg

100 grams self-raising flour

60 ml of milk

1 lemon zest only

1 orange zest only

One 12 hole muffin tin

12 cupcake liners

Method

Preheat fan assisted oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Prepare the cupcakes but putting them onto the muffin tray.

Measure out all the ingredients. Cream the butter with sugar. Then add the eggs and zests. Beat it till well mixed. Then add the flour. Beat at slow speed till well mixed.

Divide the mixture with 12 cupcakes cases. Then put them in the oven for 15-18 minutes.

When it’s cooldown then decorate it with either buttercream icing or double cream frosting. Add some hundreds and thousands to make it look more attractive and interesting.

100 grams of unsalted butter softened

100 grams icing sugar

Below picture, it’s what buttercream looks like when it is done. Using an electric mixer just cream the butter with icing sugar till it looks light and creamy.

To make the double cream frosting which just consists of double cream and icing sugar. This makes a much lighter frosting/ icing compared to the buttercream.

Cake base

  • 1 grated lemon rind

  • 100 grams icing sugar

  1. Just cream together the butter and icing sugar till is light and creamy in texture. Add some food colouring to decorate.
