I am passionate about growing my own food. Therefore in this post I am writing about seeds to start sowing in March. I am based in London, weather here though is warmer than the rest of the UK however it is still not the mediterranean. I still have to start sowing my seeds indoors to give the plants like tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergine or chillies a longer growing season.

Grow your own food
Can’t believe it’s now February already?!! Wow after months of being stuck indoors it’s good to get out to do some gardening again. I am only a homegrown edible gardener. Not a professional one or a landscape gardener. I started gardening as I love to grow my own food. I also love the concept of organic and straight from garden to kitchen cooking. As nowadays, in my opinion food we get from supermarket are so commercially grown. Growing edibles that I can’t buy from the supermarkets or the shops. I have got shops and supermarkets just about 10 minutes walk away from my flat.
Having a small garden as well in which I not only use solely for growing my own food but also for my family enjoyment like having a barbeque in the summer, trampoline. I am restricted on how much I can grow as it is not an allotment as well.
What to sow in March
Let’s get to the point of this blog of what to sow in March. what is good to start indoors. There are many books and website where you can find all the tips of what to do every month of the year. In the UK there is also the telly programme called the gardener’s world where you can also get hints and tips of what to do now.
Everyone is different, so do plan to grow what you would like to eat most. As really there is no point to growing things that you don’t simply like to eat. There is nothing wrong with that at all. If anyone has grown their own food they can tell you you can end up with lots of crops at harvest. So much so that you probably don’t know what to do with them?!!
I have got lots of seeds that I bought cheaply last year on ebay that I will really need to sow them otherwise they will be no good anymore. I will have to find some space for all these seedlings.
Here are my this years March sow time.
- Tomatoes sungold variety
- Aubergine
- Chillies
- Okra
- Brocolli
These are just to name a few of the edibles that I would like to sow in March and possibly even will be sowing them till April. I truly believe in giving them a head start of the growing season. As one can never tell what weather is going to be like.
